“ The food here is very good. We had bbq shrimp, hood sushi (my favorite item from the meal), chicken wings, mac and cheese and yeast roll. I wish I got the fried catfish too. It looked fantastic and they were selling a ton of them. I would recommend trying this place. Street parking only which is a challenge but it's typical Seattle. ”

“ The food was SO good I didn't even get a picture of any of it. This is family style, meaning you'll sit down with your kin and order things to share. You may also be sitting right next to a different family. We had Deviled Egg trio (3 half's that were loaded up with a different topping). "Sushi", omg this was SO good and the right amount of spice. BBQ Prawns, they were huge and tasty plus served with bread. I love bread. Mac n chz, definitely not better than my grandmas (as the menu says) but is very delicious! Fried chicken which was soooo good! Came with sauces that you can tell were homemade. At least that ranch was... Greens... now personally I hate pickled onions so this ruined the greens for me but the greens had a good spice to them and were overall a great dish. Our server was attentive and provided quality service throughout our dinner. ”

“ Communion was an amazing experience - friendly service, delicious and well-seasoned food, and refreshing cocktails! We came on Valentine's Day and despite how busy they were, our server took time to describe his favorite dishes to us and checked up on us frequently. Normally I'd describe some standout dishes but everything we ordered was fantastic! The jerk wings were fried to perfection and packed a flavorful punch, the pork was equally well-fried and served atop a bed of crispy cabbage and savory gravy, the grilled okra wasn't slimy at all and had a nice spicy taste to it, and the catfish was incredibly tender and well complemented by the Thai style papaya salad. Can't remember the exact names, but the lavender cocktail was refreshingly sweet and sour while the signature gin and tonic had a light and pleasant sweetness to it. Overall can't recommend this place highly enough! ”

“ I loved the ambiance and food at Communion. We ordered a variety of dishes including the Collard Greens & Neck Bones, Better than your Grandma's Mac & Cheese, Filthy Rice, Unc's Wings, and Apple Pie (Seasonal). I was pleasantly surprised by the Collard Greens & Neck Bones, but the neck bones melted in your mouth and paired nicely with the Collard Greens. I also really enjoyed the Filthy Rice, which had a slight kick to it. During the pandemic, I ordered takeout and tried the fried catfish banh mi, which was interesting take on fusion. I don't believe this particular dish is available anymore, as the menu seems to rotate occasionally. I like that Chef Kristi Brown is super innovative and continues to bring new dishes to the menu. She is also lovingly known as the the owner of "That Brown Girl Cooks!", which offers catering, and has 28+ years of experience in the culinary industry. Communion is in the heart of the Central District, located on the corner of 23rd Ave and East Union Street. Street parking is available, but may be difficult to find unless you park further away. I'd recommend making a reservation in advance via the Communion website because it is very busy and popular. ”

“ Communion in Seattle is a vibrant dining experience with bold, flavorful dishes. The neckbone lima bean stew, shrimp toast, and okra were favorites, while the mac and cheese, collard greens, and pork chop were also solid choices. The Bread Pudding dessert was a standout and worth the wait, despite some hiccups with service--our waitress seemed to disappear for 30+ minutes after the entrées. The flavors were rich and satisfying, though a bit more lightness would have elevated the dishes even further. The lively atmosphere can be a little loud, and it's clear they were understaffed during our visit, but the food's quality shines through, making Communion a valuable addition to Seattle's food scene. The Chef is very innovative in Soul Food with a Seattle Influence, picking up on influences from the local East African and Asian immigrants. The menu seems to rotate every season or so. ”
